Sorrowtales
Sorrowind was founded in the late summer of 2001. Founding
members J. Muhonen and S. Koskinen had a long past, but in
totally different circles. Muhonen had been influencing in
several bands since 1995 (f. ex. Alvarn and Sacrament) as
a lead guitarist. While Koskinen was spending his time with
several metal projects near Tampere. The early idea was to
create progressive and melodic metal with a heavy interpretation.
Sorrowind composed their first song "First Blood"
with T. Färm in NoStatus-studios Lohja 2001. Song was
recorded with two guitarists while the drums and keyboards
were sampled with aid from Mr. Färm. After recording
the instruments with great enthusiasm, J. Muhonen threw his
first vocals ever.
Mr. Koskinen took the master CD with him to Tampere where
he introduced the new product to his past musician mates J.
Väkevä, P. Hiltunen and T. Koivisto who all had
long past in the underground bands near Tampere. Väkevä
had been playing drums in a band called Obsession that was
soon to be buried. Hiltunen had been playing guitar in Obsession
as well. His other project still active was finnish cult rock
band Hyhmä. T. Koivisto had a vast experience in several
progressive/fusion projects over the years. All three guys
joined the Sorrowind forces next week. Mr. Muhonen concentrated
completely on vocals.
Next thing to do was to write a bunch of new songs while
trying to find the true direction for Sorrowinds music. Due
to the vast experience and skill, it was obvious that the
direction was towards progressive and ambitious melodic metal.
The first cd was recorded at the end of 2002 with T. Färm.
Songs were composed by Koskinen & Hiltunen while Muhonen
and Koivisto were in charge of the lyrics. Backing vocals
were recorded with a help of J. Mäki from Alvarn. There
were 300 copies made and they got sold out during the first
shows in the early 2004.
Few months after the recordings J. Muhonen contacted A. Hämäläinen
to fill up the empty space behind the keyboards. Mr. Hämäläinen
had been influencing in several metal bands in Helsinki and
Kouvola. He joined the band before first Sorrowind gig took
place in 9.6.2003.

The CD "Just Like A Child" was recorded at the
end of 2003 at the Fantom-studios (H. Wirsell) Tampere and
got released with 520 copies at the end of February 2004.
Much more progressive feeling was clearly present on the new
CD. With a lot of confidence gained by several positive reviews
and good gigs Sorrowind continues its way. First gig after
the new CD was when they supported Thunderstone 19.3.2004.

Before the 3rd CD "Ghost of Reality" Sorrowind
had almost 20 gigs and sold out both of their earlier CDs.
Songs for the new CD was once again composed by Koskinen &
Hiltunen. Recordings took place in a remote cabin and once
again Sorrowind returned to work with Mr. Färm. This
time there were 1300 copies to be released in 30.6.2006.
As a result of this new CD band got several positive and
constructive reviews around the world. It was clear at this
time that the music was listened not only in Finland, but
all over the world. The Fan mail started to poor in through
email and Myspace. Cds got mailed to Brazil, UK, States and
so on.
At the end of 2006 the title song got into a new HeavyKaraoke
DVD that's released in March´07. At the same time the
first change in the line up ever occured as well. T. Koivisto
concentrates fully on his band Malegria. U. Sevón took
the stand as a new bass player. Mr. Sevón had been
playing in several groups (Alvarn, Tähtitarha, Neljänsuora,
etc.), so his experience was highly valued by the crew members.
The year 2007 is to bring even more gigs and fame to Sorrowind.
Band keeps making music that's been recognized as Sorrowind.
The year 2006 was considered as a "silent year"
due to some personal issues, but now the band is back at its
full strength. Almost 300 promotional packages are being sent
at the beginning of February and new dates to the gig calendar
will be announced in great number this year.
At the end of summer 2007 vocalist J. Muhonen decides to leave the band.
Stay tuned and be welcomed to check the band in action!!!
Yours,
SorrowCrew
